Film Premiere on 26th of February 2023 at Museum Barberini, Potsdam
It accompanies us from morning to night, provides warmth and light, and grants us protection and comfort: the sun. As a spiritual or physical force, as a symbol of power and as the embodiment of creation, it has played a central role in art for centuries.
Starting on February 25, the Museum Barberini will present the exhibition "Sun. The Source of Light in Art", which shows the iconography of the sun from antiquity to the present day - with works by artists such as William Turner, Claude Monet and Sonia Delaunay.
The film "Ode to the Sun. An Art History" was made for ARTE on the occasion of this exhibition. On the basis of selected artistic works, the documentary takes a journey through art and cultural history and tells how artists have been dealing with the sun for centuries and which ideological ideas have been incorporated into their works.
